Who Wore It Better? Yoo Jae Suk vs. Kim Woo Bin
Out of this winter’s male fashion trend of simplicity and checks, the most popular pattern seems to be the glen check pattern, which consists of an array of irregular checks.
The coat in question is the slim-fit Prince of Wales check wool coat, belonging to the Ami 2013 Fall/Winter Collection. Ami is an up-and-coming affordable luxury label by French designer, Alexandre Mattiussi. Made of warm wool, this coat features a glen check pattern (sometimes known as the Prince of Wales check), a design with small and large checks. The knee-length coat retails at 1,180,000 KRW (or ~1,116 USD) in Korea.
Yoo Jae Suk is the hidden fashionista, making the style look like a classic. He layers a sky blue shirt with a dark green round knit sweater, paired with gray woolen trousers and the Ami check coat. The use of different colors helps break away from the dark feel of the coat alone.
Kim Woo Bin, on the other hand, looks like the “cold city man.” The white layers bring out the check pattern of the coat, and combined with dark grey pants, he displays off a manly silhouette, wearing his coat unbuttoned. He wears his coat with a slightly rebellious air, a reminder of his model roots.
Both men wore the same coat, with similar styling, but the use of different colors and attitudes gave off a different feeling. Yoo Jae Suk wore his coat with colored layers while shooting profile pictures, boasting a polished, stylish look. Kim Woo Bin’s white inner layers draw attention to the check coat, and he’s got the look down perfectly.
