Girl's Day, Dal Shabet, and Tint Headline First K-Pop Concert in Myanmar

The first K-Pop concert in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar is about to happen, according to local news source MBN. The government run television station of Myanmar MWD TV will be sponsoring the “The 1st  Korea-Myanmar Friendship K-Pop Concert” taking place on April 30 at the Thuwana National Stadium. This will be the frist time that K-Pop artists have officially taken the stage for a concert.

Groups Girl’s Day, Dal Shabet, and Tint will be performing at the concert, as well as singer Jung Il Young, who is know for his 2001 “Autumn Fairytale” OST song “Prayer.” Popular Myanmar artists will be taking the stage as well.

The proceeds from the concert will go to help children of families without parents.

While K-Dramas and Korean businesses have slowly taken root in Myanmar, the popularity of K-Pop is just starting, according to the report. A rep from the host organization of the concert commented, “Myanmar and Korea have had a long history with each other.  K-Pop is just starting to be known in this country, but it is spreading at a fast rate. We hope that with the start of this concert, more K-Pop artists will come to Myanmar and spread Hallyu.”

The concert is expected to be broadcast on the MWD TV channel.

While there is no confirmation of this concert date on Girl’s Day’s and Dal Shabet’s official schedules (the schedule for Tint is not available), hopefully this concert will go through for K-Pop fans in Myanmar; the Korea Music Festival that was supposed to take place in Myanmar earlier this year was indefinitely postponed after some controversy.
