Rumors Spread About Girl's Generation Hyoyeon's Suicide Attempt, SM to Take Legal Action

Following news of Girl’s Generation member Hyoyeon allegedly assaulting someone, which has been cleared up by SM on April 1 as a misunderstanding between her and her friend, there have been even more (and more shocking) rumors going around.

According to the police, on March 30, Hyoyeon and her male friend were goofing off on the second floor of a friend’s home, when he got hit in the eye area. Allegedly, seeing Hyoyeon jokingly try to run away to the first floor, the male friend got angry and called the police. Afterwards, at the police station, the male friend said, “I was hit while we were goofing around and filed a report, but I realized later that she must not have done it on purpose.” 

However, before this was revealed, there were rumors going around on online communities.

The rumors are based on a post by someone that states as follows, “My friend’s sister’s friend’s dad is a police officer, and yesterday (May 30), Hyoyeon tried to commit suicide because she’s bullied by Girls’ Generation, and when some guy saw what was happening and tried to stop her, she said she was just going to kill herself and hit the guy. They went to the police station, and it was a huge mess!!!”

Seeing this post, some netizens are now talking about the possibility that SM reached an agreement with the male that was involved in order to keep things quiet.

At the rapid spread of this rumor, SM Entertainment stated in an official press release on April 2 that they will be taking legal action against anyone who posts or spreads false rumors about Hyoyeon. They added, “We’re requesting that anyone who has posted this rumor on their personal SNS sites, blogs, or other websites delete the post.”
