All of the guns in the drama are props, and are just used to fire blanks. Ryu Young Jae, who is in charge of special effects for “The Joseon Gunman,” said, “Use of real firearms in movies and broadcasts is prohibited in Korea. The guns have been borrowed from Hong Kong.”

Although the guns are just props, and only blanks are used, the conditions for use are still strict, as they are still technically considered guns. Ryu Young Jae said, “Whenever the guns are not in use, we have to keep them stored at the local police station, and then retrieve them when we resume.”

Ryu Young Jae stated further, “We realize that the guns aren’t historically accurate for the time period of the drama. Due to various conditions, it’s very difficult to obtain the appropriate firearms. However, despite those shortcomings, we are doing our best to create a realistic drama, so we would very much appreciate your understanding.”
