Weekly K-Pop Music Chart 2014 – August Week 1

There were many changes on the chart this week, with the top two coming from outside last week’s top 10. Girl’s Day’s “Darling” won on Music Core and Inkigayo, while  B1A4‘s “Solo Day” won on Music Bank,  M!Countdown, and Show Champion. 

Girl’s Day easily secured the win as “Darling” scored a lot more points on independent charts and our Soompi Airplay.  “Darling” is the title track of Girl’s Day’s special “Summer Party” mini-album.  Top hitmaker Double Sidekick wrote this upbeat yet refreshing song for Girl’s Day. The lyrics are about falling in love unexpectedly during summer.  Girl’s Day already has our half year No. 1 song in “Something” and now adds another No. 1 song to their resume. They are definitely one of the top girl groups in 2014. Congratulations to Girl’s Day. 

Moving up 15 spots and finished a distant second this week is B1A4’s “Solo Day,”  the title track from their fifth mini-album of the same name.  It is still the group’s highest ranked song on our chart. Written by members Jin Young and Baro, this easy listening pop song is about being single again after a breakup, thus having the title “Solo Day.” Let see if B1A4 is able to close the gap with Girl’s Day next week to earn their first No. 1 song on our chart.

Besides the top two songs, the bottom two songs in the top 10 this week are also new entries.  Moving up 14 spots to No. 9 is “Fantastic” by Super Junior M’s Henry, his first ever solo top 10 hit on our chart.  This dance hit has additive retro style rhythm. It is about a self-centered man who changes completely after finding his love. Henry showcases his amazing talent by also playing violin on this song.

The re;code project that matches up established artist with an underground artist is a huge success. Their past biggest hit was from Geeks and Soyu’s “Offically Missing You 2.”  The fifth edition of this project between Ailee and mixed vocal group 2LSON becomes another top 10 hit of this project.  Ailee sings a new version of 2LSON’s 2011 hit “I’m In Love.”  Her trademark powerful vocal takes this song to a whole new level.  This week’s it moves up two spots to No. 10.
