JTBC to Adapt Webtoon "Ice Pick" as Drama, Will It Be the Next "Misaeng?"

Cable channel JTBC will be adapting the highly-acclaimed webtoon “Ice Pick” as a drama.

The pre-production is already underway for the drama, which is scheduled for a late-2015 premiere.

JTBC announced, “‘Ice Pick’ will be produced by JTBC’s variety department. ‘Old Miss Diary‘ and “Live in Cheongdam-Dong‘s” Kim Suk Yoon, the director of planning at JTBC, will be producing the drama himself.”

The original source material, “Ice Pick,” is an acclaimed social commentary webtoon by Choi Kyu Suk, who is known for his other webtoons such as “Native Korean” and “A Sad Homage to Dinosaur Dooly.”

“Ice Pick” illustrates employees at a supermarket fighting the corporate for their workers’ rights. It has been compared to “Misaeng” since its inception, for its candid depiction of the reality of the Korean working class.
