MBC‘s new Wednesday-Thursday drama “Scholar Who Walks the Night” kicked off to a strong start, beating the ratings for the previous drama in its slot, “Warm and Cozy.”

According to the viewer ratings research company Nielsen Korea, the first episode of “Scholar Who Walks the Night” that aired on July 8 recorded a rating of 7.7 percent nationally. This is higher than the ratings for the first episode of Warm and Cozy (6.3 percent) and also for the last episode of the same drama (7.6 percent). In the Seoul metropolitan area, the ratings went as high as 9.1 percent.

This put “Scholar Who Walks the Night” in second place in its time slot after SBS‘s “Mask.” “Mask” recorded 10.8 percent, which is down 0.3 percent from the previous episode.

Meanwhile, KBS 2TV‘s “Masked Prosecutor” rose 0.6 percent in ratings from the previous episode on July 2, recording 5.9 percent in viewership ratings.

Lee Jun Ki, who plays the lead character Park Sung Yeol in “Scholar Who Walks the Night,” said on his Instagram about the positive response to the first episode, saying, “Thank you. I’ll work harder and do better.”

Meanwhile, the first episode of “Scholar Who Walks the Night” told a fast-paced backstory of the vampire Park Sung Yeol.
