Shin Hae Chul's Family Sues His Doctor for 2.3 Billion Korean Won

Shin Hae Chul‘s family is launching a lawsuit for negligence against the doctor who carried out his surgery just before he died. The lawsuit is said to be for the amount of about 2.3 billion Korean won (about $2.3 million US dollars), and it began this past May.

Seoul Central District Court heard the pleas last month and the case continued in the morning of August 25. The family of Shin Hae Chul reportedly attempted to secure a debt of about 20 billion Korean won from the hospital in damages, but the Seoul Central District Court said the debt of the hospital is already more than what they are worth, ruling against this attempt.

Shin Hae Chul’s family is claiming that he “complained of fever and pain after the surgery, but the doctor did not do anything.” Dr. Kang, the attending physician of Shin Hae Chul at the time of his death, is already indicted for death by negligence and breach of privacy.

His death was ruled as a result of medical negligence in March, a conclusion that the doctor later refuted with his side of the story.
