Battle of the Maknaes: Round Two (+Win Signed Goods!)

UPDATE: Round Two voting is now CLOSED! Thank you to everyone who tweeted! Results, Round Three, and a possible plot twist will be posted on 9/13 8PM KST. Stay tuned!

Welcome one, welcome all to Round Two of Soompi’s Battle of the Maknaes, where your favorite youngest member go head-to-head in a battle for top spot. After an intense first round, 31 idols representing their 31 respective groups were mercilessly eliminated from the competition, bidding adieu to the Maknae stage. One, which the staff chose to save, luckily escaped his fate and will go against B.A.P’s Zelo in a “Dark Horse Round” – be sure to watch their progress here!

As we mentioned before, Round Two is a special “social voting” round which will only be taking place for 48 hours ONLY (Sept 9, 8PM KST to Sept 11, 8PM KST) on Twitter with hashtags. Behold, the official hashtag for Round Two:

HASHTAG

That’s right! Click through the pages below, insert the name of the person you’d like to win for each color bracket (Pink, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Light Blue, Blue, and Purple), and tweet away! Remember that each idol is only facing the opponent in the same colored bracket, so be sure to show idols other than your bias some love as well! You can vote as many times as you would like within the 48 hour timeframe.

But wait – there’s more! What’s a little competition without rewards? As a thank-you, we will be picking TWO random people who use the hashtags to vote on Twitter to win goodie bags with signed CDs. All you have to do is participate by voting ANY of the contestants for best maknae, and we’ll take care of the rest!

Sixteen idols, eight from each gender, will be moving on to the quarter-finals round, which may or may not include the Dark Horse winner (read more about the Dark Horse round here). Reminder: only votes made through September 11, 8PM KST will count. For your convenience, refer to the countdown timer below to see how much time you still have to vote for your favorites!

Click the button below (or flip through the pages for click-to-tweet buttons), and get started! May the best maknae win!

HALFTIME Highlights:

(Updated: 9/10)

After a grueling 24 hours of voting, we checked in with each contestant to see how they’re faring in the hashtag battle. Numbers for their match-ups are now posted to their respective pages, so be sure to flip through to check them out!

Currently, ELFs come out big with the highest amount of votes at 169K for #KyuhyunBestMaknae. Funnily enough, his same-group opponent, Jun from U-KISS, garnered the next highest: 55K votes in just 24 hours. Next up, GOT7’s Yugyeom has 44K, while BTS’ Jungkook sits at a nice 27K.

For the ladies, T-Ara’s Jiyeon dominates with 36K votes, while Youngji from KARA is next in line with 5.8K votes. Many of the match-ups are very close, so that makes your vote the more important!

As for the Dark Horse match-up between ZELO and Sungjae – the B.A.P maknae is in the lead with 21K votes. He just might take over the #8 spot heading into quarter-finals!

With 24 hours still ahead, prepare yourselves as the battle unfolds. Vote on!

We previously announced a surprise addition for Round Two of the Battle of the Maknaes, which will feature Zelo and a Staff Save from Round One. BTOB’s Sungjae was the popular vote amongst staff, so he was allotted a second chance in the battle! As with the rest of the competition, be sure to vote for either Zelo or Sungjae via #ZELOBestMaknae or #SungjaeBestMaknae.

But there’s a catch – even with the addition of the Dark Horse round, only 8 idols will be moving on to the quarter-finals. Here’s where it gets interesting. The total number of votes/tweets of the winner in the Dark Horse group (either Zelo or Sungjae) will be compared to the winner of one of the other groups with the lowest number of votes, and the one with the higher vote with move on to the next round. In other words, all of the winning contenders from Round Two will be rounded up and ranked from #1 to #8 based on their total number of votes. This means that although the bracket only forces two idols of the same color group to face-off against each other, the winners of any color group can still face elimination if they are the last place out of all of the quarter-final contenders. This #8 seed of the quarter finals can be replaced with either Zelo or Sungjae, or, if the two aren’t able to surpass the votes of this #8 seed, both Dark Horse idols will fail out of the competition.

What does this mean for you? If you support one of the idols from any other color group, be sure their victory is a landslide to ensure they won’t clinch the #8 spot. Or, if you’re a Zelo or Sunjae fan, make sure your votes are higher than the #8 seed. Enough said, let’s get to voting!
