
6 Epic K-Pop MVs That Went Outside the Box and Created a Whole World
While music videos always feature a particular concept and theme, its not very often that they create and show off a whole world. These are usually big budget videos that escape the “music video box” and a normal modern day setting.
2NE1 – “Come Back Home”
Sci-Fi / Futuristic
Right from the beginning, we see a futuristic looking Seoul (notice the Seoul Tower in back) that is dark expect for the single lit up billboard. The story features people escaping real life to live in a bright and vivid virtual world, and 2NE1 fighting against it.
T-ara – “Day By Day” and “Sexy Love”
Post apocalyptic world
In 2012 T-ara had an epic two part music video for their songs “Day By Day” and “Sexy Love.” The beginning of “Day By Day” explains that humans wanted to have the power of God, but were destroyed in the process of trying to obtain it.
Featuring an urban wasteland with decaying skyscrapers, they have a high enough understanding of technology to use vehicles, yet for some reason, use swords to do battle. Overall, it is reminiscent of some of the worlds in the “Final Fantasy” video game series.
Junsu – “Flower”
Fantasy world
This music video definitely has a lot of stunning visuals that can overwhelm you upon your first watch. Various interpretations of the story can be found in the YouTube comments. One mentions a ruthless king that who has forgotten his past, while another talks about Greek mythology.
BIGBANG – “FANTASTIC BABY”
Dystopian world (no music allowed)
While we don’t get to see much of this world, we people trying to overthrow a government that his banned music. For some reason, the BIGBANG members retrained in various places.
Similarly, their music video for “Monster” also has them in captivity. Brown Eyed Girls’ “Sixth Sense” and BAP’s “Badman” also feature some kind of rioting.
Sunny Hill – “The Grasshopper Song”
Insect-humanoid world
This music video was based on the fable of the ant and the grasshopper, but twists the moral of the story. Instead being about the ant working all the time to survive and the grasshopper that plays all day, the video shows that it is also important to have fun and enjoy life.
ZE:A – “Breathe“
Post apocalyptic world and space
Another post apocalyptic world in a music video. This time they escape to space to get to a empty white planet.
Similarly, VIXX gets exiled to another planet in their music video for “On and On.”
