None of 9 Best Actor and Actress Nominees for Grand Bell Awards to Attend Ceremony

This year’s Grand Bell Awards, which celebrates the best of the best in Korean film, will unfortunately not be attended by any of the nominees in two of its most major categories.

All the Best Actor nominees have had to decline their invitation to the ceremony. The list of this year’s nominees includes Yoo Ah In with his two nominations for “Veteran” and “Sado” (also known as “The Throne”), Ha Jung Woo for “Assassination,” Hwang Jung Min for “Ode to My Father,” and Son Hyun Joo for “The Chronicles of Evil.”

It’s been reported that Yoo Ah In is unable to attend due to his shooting schedule for the SBS drama “Six Flying Dragons.” Ha Jung Woo won’t be able to be there because he is currently overseas, Hwang Jung Min can’t take part because of conflicts with his schedule, and Son Hyun Joo’s reps have stated he won’t be attending either.

According to Newsen, all five nominees for Best Actress will also not be attending the ceremony. The nominees are Kim Yoon Jin for “Ode to My Father,” Jun Ji Hyun for “Assassination,” Kim Hye Soo for “Coin Locker Girl,” Uhm Jung Hwa for “Wonderful Nightmare” (also known as “Miss Wife”), and Han Hyo Joo for “The Beauty Inside.”

Jun Ji Hyun will not be at the ceremony because she is currently not attending any events while she is on pregnancy leave. Kim Yoon Jin won’t be able to participate as she is in the United States filming the fourth season of the show “Mistresses,” while Kim Hye Soo, Uhm Jung Hwa, and Han Hyo Joo all have scheduling conflicts.

One source points out to Newsen, “Although award ceremonies look on the outside as though they are held for just a short time over a few hours on one day, actresses require a long process of preparation in order to participate.”

This is a particularly difficult situation for the Grand Bell Awards, as they previously announced that they will not give awards to any winners who do not attend the ceremony. Now, in light of the fact that their Best Actor and Actress nominees won’t be able to participate, they have stated that they will discuss the matter again. However, as of the day before the awards show, there has been no official statement made about how they will deal with this situation.
