How Come No One Expected Park Bom's Appearance at the 2015 MAMA?

Since last night, Park Bom‘s completely unexpected appearance at the 2015 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) alongside her fellow 2NE1 members has been the ultimate talk of the town.

Everyone is curious about the implications of the big surprise stage. Was it a teaser for 2NE1’s comeback? Maybe a prologue for Park Bom’s return to domestic activities?

And then we have the question: how come no one knew about the performance in advance?

According to a representative of 2NE1, only a handful of people were informed about the girls’ reunion plans. Everything was kept under wraps until the very last second: the group did not participate in the rehearsal, their name was not included in any official lists or even the cue sheet. Even their flight to Hong Kong was kept a secret from reporters.

It appears that 2NE1’s long-awaited reunion was just as big of a shock to the cameramen as it was to the viewers.

“The only person who knew about Park Bom and 2NE1’s appearance was the Executive Producer,” a 2NE1 rep stated to local news outlet Star News on December 3.
