
YG Entertainment Joins With NBC Universal in Investing in Drama "Moon Lovers," Embarks on Content Production Business
YG Entertainment continues to expand its business beyond music production, having previously launched a clothing and a makeup brand, among its many other ventures. Today, YG announces that it is jumping into the K-drama production business, joining hands with the major U.S. studio NBC Universal to invest in the upcoming drama “Moon Lovers.”
YG Entertainment stated in an official release, “With the investment in ‘Moon Lovers,’ we are laying the groundwork for our content creation, investment, and distribution business, as well as additional ventures.” Specifically for “Moon Lovers,” YG is planning on producing cosmetics and oriental medicine related products. It also plans on products related to the drama content, such as its characters, as well as producing media content, such as behind-the-scenes clips. It is “looking at all prospects for the diversification of the business.”
“Moon Lovers” is directed by Kim Kyu Tae and written by Jo Yoon Young. It stars Lee Joon Gi, IU, Kang Ha Neul, Kim San Ho, Hong Jong Hyun, Yoon Sun Woo, EXO‘s Baekhyun, Nam Joo Hyuk, Ji Soo, Kang Han Na, Kim Sung Kyun, Park Ji Young, Woo Hee Hin, Park Shi Eun, and Jin Ki Joo. It is to be completely filmed before premiering, a rare production system in the K-drama industry.
“Moon Lovers” is expected to premiere in the latter half of this year.
