Choi Eunbin From

Choi Eunbin from Mnet’s “Produce 101” has become embroiled in a legal conflict.

GM Music, the production company for girl group Black Swan, has filed charges against the former “Produce 101” trainee at the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors’ Office for breach of contract and fraud.

According to GM Music, Choi Eunbin had visited the company with Trainee A, saying she wanted to be a part of Black Swan, which debuted earlier this year. However, Choi Eunbin had already signed an exclusive contract with Nextar Entertainment in 2012. She allegedly pleaded with GM Music, saying she was with her current company for four years and didn’t see any hope of releasing any music or debuting, before appearing on “Produce 101” soon after. She went on the show as a trainee affiliated with Nextar Entertainment but was actually receiving support from GM Music at the time. After her appearance on the show, Choi Eunbin could not be contacted. GM Music explained, “We decided to press charges because we believe that Choi Eunbin didn’t have intentions to join Black Swan nor terminate her contract with her company.”

However, Nextar Entertainment said on April 20 that they were perplexed by the news of the accusations against Choi Eunbin and that they will need to look into it further to confirm the details.

A representative of Nextar Entertainment commented, “We do not know what support was provided [by GM Music] while she was appearing on ‘Produce 101.’ Everything from the shop, training, and manager were provided by Nextar Entertainment and there are no problems with the exclusive contract so we do not know why this kind of news is being spread.” Nextar Entertainment concluded by saying that they will need to contact Choi Eunbin promptly for clarification on the situation.
