EXO Wins 5 Awards At The 2016 Melon Music Awards Including Best Artist Of The Year
The 2016 Melon Music Awards took place on the night of November 19 KST at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul, South Korea.
The Melon Music Awards, presented by Kakao, honored K-pop artists and their achievements this year based on their performance on Melon, one of Korea’s largest online music store. There were a total of 23 different awards, divided into four broad categories: Main, Popularity, Music Style, and Special Awards.
EXO took home five awards: Top 10, Netizen Choice, Dance (Male), Kakao Hot Star Award, and one of the biggest awards (Daesang) of the night, the Best Artist of the Year award. EXO has won a Daesang four years in a row.
EXO members were emotional as they thanked their fans – EXO-L – and promised they will become artists that their fans can be proud of. Suho also commented that while he enjoyed watching all the other stage, he was most moved by the Sechs Kies’ stage. Sechs Kies is a first generation idol group and had their reunion after 16 years this year to much success. Sechs Kies performed at the awards ceremony today, in addition to taking home the Hall of Fame Award. Suho expressed how he wanted EXO to be like Sechs Kies who can be with their fans for a long time.
Chanyeol also proudly displayed the trophies through his Instagram!
He wrote, “The audience we were looking at today from the stage looked like a galaxy. Thank you for always looking at us steadfastly, and we will work hard with the mindset of someone just beginning. Let’s create history together! #exol_worked_hard_get_home_safe #heart”
Congratulations to EXO!
