Women's Spring 2017 Fashion Trends As Seen In K-Pop Music Videos

While some of us might look to Instagram or social media for fashion inspiration, those who love K-pop understand that honestly, the best places to draw inspiration from are actually newly released music videos. And often, the stars who feature in the music videos are often seen donning attire that predict really well the coming season’s fashion trends. Here are some spring 2017 fashion trends, as seen in recently released music videos:

Vibrant Pastels

Spring means it’s time to put away all (or at least some) of the black coats you’ve been hiding yourself in and to start adorning yourself with some color instead! But of course, we all know how daunting that transition from wearing only wintry, dark shades to splashing pops of color can be. And if you’re anything like me, you’re not that into wearing flashy, brilliant colors from head-to-toe. But this spring, in addition to your vibrant staples, is just as much about subdued pastels — particularly yellows, lavenders, and that famous millenial pink. Just look at how vibrant Cao Lu (Fiestar), Kisum, and Yerin (GFRIEND) look in their collaboration, fittingly titled “Spring Again,” even when they’re dressed in a more subdued color palette.

Single-Shoulder Dresses

For you decades fashion lovers, ’80s style single-shoulder dresses are back, and better than ever! And who better to rock the one-shouldered frock (and extremely glitzy ones, at that) than veteran singer and actress Uhm Jung Hwa? You can see that she’s updated the ’80s glittery, one-shoulder dress and rendered it slightly more futuristic in her new music video. And for anyone who doesn’t believe that the ’80s can thrive in the 21st century, you can see Uhm Jung Hwa also performing in glamorous one-shoulder dresses in her new drama, “You’re Too Much.”

Statement Stripes

There are just some trends (if you can call them that) that just never go out of style, and stripes seem to be one of them. One year, it was the sailor stripes on long-sleeve t-shirts; another year, it was business-casual-esque blouses with thin stripes over blue. In spring 2017, though, it will be all about eye-stopping statement stripes that scream, “wow!” Coincidentally, you can see several members of Lovelyz dancing and singing around in bold statement stripes in their music video for “Wow!”

Corsets

Whether you’re into the whole lingerie-inspired clothing over flowy white blouses trend that has been circling around for some time or not, let’s face it. It’s also a trend that’s here to stay like the stripes. In spring 2017, it will be all about corsets over flowy tops. And regardless of how you feel about the style, you can’t deny that Kassy looks amazing with a cropped corset worn over her white blouse in the music video for Sanchez’s “5 More Minutes,” in which she stars.

Block Heeled Sandals

Love strutting and showing off in your fabulous heels but hate the pain that comes along with doing so? Not to worry, as one of spring 2017’s biggest forthcoming trends include block-heeled sandals. They maximize cuteness while minimizing all of the discomfort, making them especially perfect and ubiquitous for the 9-to-5, running errands, and more! You can see Jeon Somi comfortably walking around in them along with Eric Nam in “You, Who?”

Oversized Statement Earrings

I’ve personally always loved statement earrings, but recent trends thus far have emphasized minimalist jewelry and simplicity. Luckily for statement jewelry aficionados like me, oversized earrings that draw all the attention are back. Taeyeon is always known for dressing in the trendiest outfits in her solo music videos, and it’s no exception in “Fine.” You can see that towards the end, Taeyeon’s wearing oversized, baubly blue earrings that seem to dangle all the way down to her collarbones.

Mix & Match

Can’t decide on your favorite trend out of the ones I’ve mentioned? Lucky for you, spring 2017 is the season to don it all — at once! There’s no need to worry about clashing or looking silly. Just go for it! Look at the ladies of TWICE and how fabulous they look rocking several spring 2017 trends all at once in “Knock Knock.” Perhaps if enough of us start wearing spring 2017 trends, spring weather will finally come knocking on our doors.
