Highlight’s Lee Gikwang and 2AM’s Jeong Jinwoon’s new soccer variety show may be coming to MBC!

On April 17, a source at MBC confirmed that “God of Soccer” (literal title) was in talks to air on the broadcast network. The source stated, “Because the programming has not yet been set, we are unable to provide any information about the program. The current situation is that the production company has made an offer to MBC, and we are in the midst of discussions regarding the offer.”

“God of Soccer” is a variety show intended to air as a special for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, which is scheduled to begin on June 14. In addition to Lee Gikwang and Jeong Jinwoon, who will be hosting the show, the program will also feature renowned soccer coach Guus Hiddink, who famously led the South Korean team to the semi-finals of the 2002 World Cup.

Although it had previously been reported that “God of Soccer” would be airing on JTBC, sources stated on April 17 that the production company’s negotiations with the cable network had fallen through. One insider told news outlet OSEN, “It was ultimately decided that they would not be [airing the program] with JTBC. Although they were in talks about programming, things didn’t pan out.”
