Kangta Talks About How H.O.T. Became Successful Because Of Shin Dong Yup
H.O.T.’s Kangta revealed that one of the secrets to the group’s success was Shin Dong Yup.
On September 6, Kangta guested on tvN’s “Life Bar,” where he talked about the H.O.T.’s rookie days. He explained that 20 years ago, he had been in the same agency as the MC, and shared, “From our perspective, Shin Dong Yup was our savior. Thanks to his recommendation, we were able to stand on stage.” He talked about how Shin Dong Yup, who had been quite popular back then, had taken the initiative to help H.O.T. stand on stage one more time.
Shin Dong Yup added more detail to the story, saying, “I was the MC at the time for ‘Speed 012 Concert,’ the biggest concert that was touring the country. Before the official concert began, H.O.T. performed on stage.” He continued, “Then word suddenly began spreading, and from around the third city people started gathering and it blew up.” Han Hye Jin was impressed and mentioned, “There wasn’t even social media back then.”
Kangta commented, “There was another thing we were thankful for. Because we danced so wildly on stage, our white underwear showed. Shin Dong Yup saw this and he bought us brand name underwear.” The MC made everyone laugh by saying, “The white underwear was like a diaper.”
H.O.T. will be holding their first solo concert in 17 years on October 13 and 14. Their last concert was in 2001.
“Life Bar” airs every Thursday at 11 p.m. KST.
