Son Ye Jin Talks About Moving On From Melodrama/Rom-Com Image In New Film With Hyun Bin

Son Ye Jin recently sat down for an interview to talk about her upcoming film “Negotiation” with Hyun Bin.

“Negotiation” is about an arms dealer who precipitates a hostage situation in Thailand (Hyun Bin) and the police negotiator brought in to handle the crisis (Son Ye Jin).

When Hyun Bin and Son Ye Jin were cast in the movie, given their respective reputations as the “melo[drama] queen” and “rom-com king,” many people expected an epic romance story. However, the two characters are in conflict throughout the movie and in fact rarely share screen time.

In the interview, Son Ye Jin said, “[The conflict] was one of the things that drew me to the script. There are a lot of actors that come to mind when playing villains, but Hyun Bin is an unexpected choice. I’m glad that they thought out of the box when it came to his casting.”

About Hyun Bin himself, she said, “We related to each other on a lot of levels. That’s why I think filming went well. We didn’t rehearse a lot together because we communicate through monitors in the movie, but we had to get close to each other fast. We met often off-camera and talked about our shared experiences in the industry. There were a lot of similarities.”

“Negotiation” premieres in South Korea on September 19.
