“Hedwig And The Angry Inch” Announces Kangta’s Departure + Cancels All Shows He Was Scheduled For
Kangta will be leaving the cast of the musical “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” following recent controversy.
On August 6, the musical’s production company SHOWNOTE released the following statement:
Hello. This is SHOWNOTE Co., the production company of the musical “Hedwig and the Angry Inch.”
First of all, we express our gratitude to the audiences who give love to the musical “Hedwig and the Angry Inch.”
Through mutual agreement with his agency, SHOWNOTE Co. made the final decision for the departure of actor Kangta, who was cast in the musical “Hedwig and the Angry Inch.” We feel sorry to deliver unfortunate news to the many people who have anticipated the musical “Hedwig and the Angry Inch.”
We decided to cancel all of the specific shows that were scheduled to feature actor Kangta, and tickets for these shows will be refunded entirely without any fees. We will announce details regarding ticket cancellations for these shows via the ticketing website and individual messages.
Currently, all of the actors and staff of the musical “Hedwig” are in the final stages of preparation ahead of the premiere on August 16. We will put in our full effort to show great performances.
On August 1, Kangta and racing model Woo Joo Ahn clarified their relationship after she posted old videos of them together. Then, TV personality Oh Jung Yeon made claims implying that Kangta cheated on her with Woo Joo Ahn when they were dating, which Woo Joo Ahn then responded to. It was announced on August 3 that Kangta would not participate in SMTOWN in Tokyo due to health reasons. Kangta posted a personal apology on August 4 and also cancelled his upcoming song release.
