BTS Makes History As 1st Artist To Win Both Grand Prizes At Golden Disc Awards In Single Year

BTS has set a new record at the 34th Golden Disc Awards!

The 34th Golden Disc Awards was held on January 4 and 5 at the Gocheok Sky Dome to recognize the best of digital releases and physical album released in 2019.

During the physical album awards that was held on January 5, BTS took home Album of the Year (Disc Daesang), as well as Album Division Bonsang, K-Pop Star Award, and TikTok Golden Disc Popularity Award. The group also won a Digital Song Division Bonsang and Song of the Year (Digital Daesang) on January 4. In all, BTS took home six awards across both days of the 34th Golden Disc Awards and became the first artists to win the Daesang in both categories in a single year.

Accepting the Album of the Year, leader RM said, “Golden Disc Awards is our last awards show of the 2010s, as well as our first awards show of the 2020s. This is all thanks to our fans. Thank you.”

He went on to say, “Last year was such a happy year. We worked hard, and we also rested. I remember when I first met PD Bang Shi Hyuk in the spring of 2010. Since then, for the past 10 years, our 2010s were filled to the brim with the name BTS.” RM went on to say, “In the 2020s, we hope that by our side, that space will be filled to the brim with ARMY. We will write this book in your name.”

Lastly, RM stated, “With the great fortune of receiving help from many people and luck on our side, we are able to stand in the spotlight and say what we want to say and make the music we want to make. However, there are many artists who are unable to do so even though they give their all to their music. We hope these artists’ hard work and sincerity will be able to reach the public in a fair, just way that isn’t in vain. We hope the wrongdoings will end with the 2010s, and there will be better things to come in the 2020s.” He concluded by stating, “We thank the musicians who are an inspiration and role models to us, and we love our fans.”
