YouTube Announces Official View Count For BTS’s “ON” MV 24-Hour Debut
YouTube has now announced its official view count for BTS’s “ON” MV in the first 24 hours after its release.
BTS dropped their new album “Map of the Soul: 7” on February 21 as well as a video titled “Kinetic Manifesto Film: Come Prima” that spotlights the group’s performance of their title track “ON.” They then released the cinematic official MV for the song on February 28 at midnight KST.
The music video made history by becoming the highest viewed YouTube premiere (in which viewers watch a new video together at the moment of its release) and breaking the record for fastest MV to reach 10 million views. At February 29 at midnight KST (24 hours after its release), the “ON” MV showed a total of 44,231,073 views as its realtime count.
On March 3 local time, Forbes reported the official view count from YouTube for the MV’s 24-hour debut, after the adjustment of the count following YouTube’s process of view validation.
According to YouTube, the “ON” MV debuted with 43.8 million views in the first 24 hours, which makes it the seventh-largest debut in YouTube history.
Forbes also reported last month that YouTube stated that BTS’s “Kinetic Manifesto Film: Come Prima” garnered 46.5 views in the first 24 hours, making it the fifth-largest debut for a music video on the site.
BTS’s fans ARMY have called into question the method of YouTube’s validation of views, accusing the site of deleting tens of millions of views on BTS’s “ON” MV. YouTube responded to fans on Twitter by stating, “It’s normal to see views slow down, freeze, or adjust while we verify that those are real and accurate.” This response has been met with further criticism from fans who are questioning how the site determines which views are real.
It's normal to see views slow down, freeze, or adjust while we verify that those are real and accurate. Here’s more info on how this works: https://t.co/x3N7d5IYy2. If you meant something else, let us know!
