“Road to Kingdom” began the first round of its competition!

On the May 7 episode of the new Mnet competition show, the seven boy groups began their “Song of King” mission where they’re tasked with performing legendary songs by senior artists.

After coming in first in the preliminary 90-second performance showdown in the premiere, The Boyz got to decide the order of performances. The group chose to go last, and then decided the set list for the rest of the performances.

Host Lee Da Hee explained that “Road to Kingdom” will be similar to last year’s “Queendom” in that the first place winner will be decided through a combination of the results from the four rounds of performances and the groups’ digital song scores. However, there’s a new addition to the rankings this time around: the total views on videos uploaded after the episodes will count towards the final score.

The winner of the first round is being determined by votes from the contestants themselves. While the 90-second performance battle in the first episode featured each group getting to cast a vote together, the votes are being made by individual team members for the first round. Once all the teams perform, six members of each group will get to rank the groups from first to sixth (without being able to include their own team).

For the first round, each team chose a track that they consider to be a legendary K-pop song and then put their own unique spin on it.

Check out the performances so far below!

ONEUS – “Warrior’s Descendant” (H.O.T)

TOO – “Rising Sun” (TVXQ)

VERIVERY – “MANSAE” (SEVENTEEN)

Golden Child – “T.O.P” (Shinhwa)

The performances by PENTAGON and The Boyz will be featured in next week’s episode of the show.
