Peninsula,” the sequel to the hit 2016 film “Train to Busan,” has reached another important milestone!

According to the Korean Film Council, “Peninsula” recorded 2,000,908 moviegoers at 2:13 p.m. KST on July 21. The film had surpassed one million moviegoers in less than four days.

This not only means the film was able to achieve the feat in just seven days, but it is also the first film to do so since late-February when the COVID-19 pandemic was hitting its peak in Korea. The film industry has been especially hit hard by the pandemic, and the success of “Peninsula” is being seen as a sign of recovery for the industry.

To celebrate the milestone, director Yeon Sang Ho and cast members Kang Dong Won, Lee Jung Hyun, Kwon Hae Hyo, Kim Min Jae, Goo Gyo Hwan, Kim Do Yoon, Lee Re, and Lee Ye Won shared handwritten messages of gratitude to thank moviegoers.

“Peninsula” takes place four years after “Train to Busan” and tells the story of those still alive as they continue to fight a deadly zombie outbreak.

Congratulations to the cast and crew of “Peninsula”!
