BTS set a meaningful new record at the 35th Golden Disc Awards!

On January 10, BTS won the Album of the Year (Disc Daesang) at the 35th Golden Disc Awards. This is the group’s fourth year in a row that they have won the Disc Daesang. In addition to their Digital Daesang, which they won last year, BTS now has a total of five Daesangs from the Golden Disc Awards, a first for any artist in history.

In addition to the Grand Prize, BTS also took home a Bonsang in the digital song and album divisions and the Curaprox Golden Disc Most Popular Artist Award.

In BTS’ speech for the Disc Daesang, RM said, “The seven of us have gathered for this big awards ceremony, so let’s do a proper greeting. ARMY, you’re watching, right? Once again, we have started off the new year with such a big award at this amazing ceremony. I’m happiest that we could receive this award with Suga by our side.”

Suga, who had been absent from most of BTS’s end-of-year activities due to recovery from shoulder surgery, said, “Even as the music and concert industries stagnate due to COVID-19, I am honored and grateful that people showed so much love for our album. In essence, we were able to promote our album, but we weren’t able to hold concerts. I hope that the time will arrive when we can perform our album ‘[Map of the Soul:] 7’ in a concert.”

V said, “It’s hard to speak in a place without ARMY in the audience, but I believe that you’re watching on TV. I love you, ARMY, and thank you for giving us such endless love and this amazing award.” Jimin said, “I want to thank the producers and Bang [Si Hyuk] PD who helped us make a good album.”

J-Hope said, “I think there’s a deep sorrow that we weren’t able to show our performances in person. I really want to show them when the situation improves.” Jungkook said, “To ARMY all over the world, I hope that you can have a bright year like my hair color. You worked hard in 2020.” RM concluded, “As we have received such a big award, we will return with more good music and performances this year.”

In their speech for the Bonsang in the Album Division, the BTS members reminisced about the first time they had won a Bonsang and Jimin and V spoke about their wish to perform “ON” in front of ARMY in person.

In their speech for the Most Popular Artist Award, RM said that the popularity award was what they liked the most. Jin said, “This is the award you get if you have a lot of popularity, so it makes me realize, ‘We’re really popular.'” Jimin added with a laugh, “I’m really happy. I feel good because I feel like I became popular through the other members who are really popular.” V said, “When I hear that I’m popular, I go to sleep with a smile on my face.”
