SF9’s Chani Talks About His Experience As MC On “Music Core,” His Future Ambitions As An MC, And More
The “Radio Star” hosts asked him about his nickname “Ox Chani,” a reference to his hardworking nature, and Chani explained, “I recently worked on five projects at the same time. I filmed a web drama, a movie, and I work as an MC on ‘Music Core.'” He added that he is also working on two dramas, one as a special guest actor (“True Beauty“) and one called “Imitation” (working title) for KBS.
Chani also talked about his experience being an MC on “Music Core,” a position that he has held since February 2019. He said, “On music shows, the MCs have to speak in a high tone and in a bouncy way like a bouncing ball. There’s something formal about it. I tried to break this mold and got scolded. I tried to sound more natural but I was almost fired because I wasn’t bouncy enough.”
He went on, “I’ve also messed up the pronunciation while speaking. I was supposed to say ‘paid text message’ very precisely, but I was so nervous that I said ‘paid Mensa message’ instead. I was also introducing EXO’s Kai once and called him ‘teacher’ by mistake.”
Kim Gura mentioned that it is difficult for idols to be an MC on music shows for a long time, given that the shows film every week and idols are often busy with comebacks and concerts and other events. Chani said, “I have a lot of ambition to be an MC. I want to do it for a long time. I love ‘Music Core.’ I also have a lot of interest in variety shows.”
Chani and Son Bum Soo then teamed up to host a music show segment together as the representatives of the “modern” and “old-school” music show hosts.
