Youn Yuh Jung Heads To Los Angeles To Attend 93rd Academy Awards
Youn Yuh Jung will be attending the 93rd Academy Awards!
On April 14, a source from Youn Yuh Jung’s agency Hook Entertainment stated, “Youn Yuh Jung received an official invitation from the Academy as a nominee for Best Supporting Actress. She got on a plane to Los Angeles yesterday in order to participate in the awards ceremony in the United States.”
The source added, “Please be understanding that she left the country quietly in order to minimize any harm from COVID-19 since Youn Yuh Jung decided to attend the Academy Awards after much consideration. We sincerely thank everyone who has shared the happiness together at each award acceptance.”
The cast of “Minari” recently made Oscar history when the film received six nominations including “Minari” for Best Picture, Steven Yeun for Best Actor, Youn Yuh Jung for Best Supporting Actress, Lee Isaac Chung for Best Director, Lee Isaac Chung for Best Original Screenplay, and Emile Mosseri for Best Original Score.
Steven Yeun is the first Asian-American actor to be nominated for the Best Actor title from the Academy Awards, while Youn Yuh Jung is the first Korean person to be nominated in an acting category at the Oscars. For the Best Supporting Actress title, Youn Yuh Jung is up against Maria Bakalova (“Borat Subsequent Moviefilm”), Glenn Close (“Hillbilly Elegy”), Olivia Colman (“The Father”), and Amanda Seyfried (“Mank”).
The hit film “Minari” is directed by Lee Isaac Chung and stars Steven Yeun, Han Ye Ri, Alan Kim, Noel Kate Cho, Youn Yuh Jung, and Will Patton. Based on the director’s real-life experiences, the movie is about a family of South Korean immigrants who try to start a new life in rural America during the 1980s.
Recently, Youn Yuh Jung won Best Supporting Actress at this year’s BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) Film Awards and the 27th Screen Actor Guild (SAG) Awards.
The 93rd Academy Awards will be held on April 25 in Los Angeles, United States. Director Bong Joon Ho was announced to present at the ceremony.
