BTS' Suga Tops 7 Billboard Charts + Becomes 1st K-Pop Artist To Hit No. 1 On Top Rap Albums Chart

BTSSuga’s first official solo album is off to an impressive start on the U.S. charts!

For the week ending on May 6, Suga’s new solo album “D-DAY” and its title track “Haegeum“—which were released under the stage name Agust D—made strong debuts on numerous Billboard charts.

“D-DAY” entered Billboard’s Top 200 Albums chart (its weekly ranking of the most popular albums in the United States) at No. 2, tying the record set by Suga’s bandmate Jimin last month for the highest-ranking Korean solo album in Billboard 200 history.

Not only has Suga tied the record for highest-ranking K-pop solo artist on the Billboard 200, but he has also become the first Korean soloist ever to land more than one album in the top 20. (Before “D-DAY,” Suga’s mixtape “D-2” entered the chart at No. 11 back in 2020.)

According to Luminate (formerly Nielsen Music), “D-DAY” earned a total of 140,000 equivalent album units during the week ending on April 27. The album’s total score consisted of 122,000 traditional album sales—making it this week’s top-selling album and also marking the fourth-largest U.S. sales week of any album in 2023—and 12,500 streaming equivalent album (SEA) units, which translates to 17.9 million on-demand audio streams over the course of the week. “D-DAY” also racked up 5,500 track equivalent album (TEA) units in its first week.

Meanwhile, Suga’s title track “Haegeum” debuted at No. 58 on Billboard’s Hot 100 (its weekly ranking of the most popular songs in the United States). The debut marks Suga’s fourth overall chart entry as a solo artist and his second for a song released solely under his name, following “Daechwita” (which peaked at No. 76), his Juice Wrld collab “Girl of My Dreams” (No. 29), and his PSY collab “That That” (No. 80).

Additionally, Suga has become the first K-pop artist in history to reach No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Rap Albums chart. Including the Top Rap Albums chart, “D-DAY” debuted at No. 1 on four different Billboard charts this week, topping the World Albums chart, Top Album Sales chart, and Top Current Album Sales chart.

Overall, Suga topped a total of seven Billboard charts this week, with “Haegeum” entering three different charts at No. 1.

Suga extended his own record for the most entries on Billboard’s Digital Song Sales chart of any K-pop soloist (25), with all of the tracks from “D-DAY” (except for his pre-release single “People Pt.2” featuring IU, which already debuted at No. 1 on the chart last month) landing in the top 30. “Haegeum” debuted at No. 1, “HUH?!” (featuring J-Hope) at No. 8, “AMYGDALA” at No. 12, “Snooze” (featuring Ryuichi Sakamoto and The Rose’s Woosung) at No. 13, “D-Day” at No. 15, “Life Goes On” at No. 19, “SDL” at No. 20, “Polar Night” at No. 24, and “Interlude : Dawn” at No. 26.

Suga also swept eight of the top 10 spots on the World Digital Song Sales chart, where “Haegeum” debuted at No. 1, “HUH?!” at No. 3, “AMYGDALA” at No. 5, “Snooze” at No. 6, “D-Day” at No. 7, “Life Goes On” at No. 8, “SDL” at No. 9, and “Polar Night” at No. 10.

Suga’s new songs from “D-DAY” similarly dominated the Rap Digital Song Sales chart, which “Haegeum” entered at No. 1, followed by “HUH?!” at No. 2, “Snooze” at No. 3, “D-Day” at No. 4, “SDL” at No. 6, and “Polar Night” at No. 7.

Meanwhile, “Haegeum” debuted at No. 12 on Billboard’s Global Excl. U.S. chart and No. 15 on the Global 200 this week. Suga’s pre-release track “People Pt.2” climbed back up to No. 64 on the Global Excl. U.S. chart and No. 105 on the Global 200, while “AMYGDALA” debuted at No. 127 on the Global Excl. U.S. chart and No. 161 on the Global 200. “HUH?!” and “D-Day” also entered the Global Excl. U.S. chart at No. 182 and No. 200 respectively.

Finally, Suga re-entered Billboard’s Artist 100 at No. 3 under the name Agust D, making him the second highest-charting K-pop soloist in history (bested only by his bandmate Jimin, who reached No. 1 last month).

Congratulations to Suga on his many amazing achievements!
