Asia’s leading audition program “SuperStar K” will visit PSY’s alma mater,  Berklee College of Music, to discover the next superstar!!

CJ E&M’s music channel Mnet has introduced a new format of preliminary auditions for this year’s “SuperStar K” as an attempt to discover hidden musical talents. Dubbed “visiting audition,” “SuperStar K5” has been holding preliminaries in various locations over the country and now it will go abroad to the Berklee College of Music in Boston. The visiting audition at Berklee will take place in Fordham Road Practice Facility at 2 PM on May 28.

Known as the largest independent college of contemporary music, the school’s alumni include famous musicians, such as Quincy Jones, John Mayer, Keith Jarrett, along with K-POP phenomena PSY and 2NE1’s Park Bom.

Several Berklee students have already tried out for “SuperStar K” in the past. Jung Sun Kook advanced into the Top 10 in the first season back in 2009. Contestant Kim Jung Hwan participated in “SuperStar K4,” which was held last year. The show’s producer said, “We are very excited to have an audition at Berklee College of Music. We are wondering what kind of applicants we will meet there, a city full of world’s musical genius.”

Mnet will also visit Los Angeles, New York (both on May 25) and Vancouver (May 28) for auditions. This is the first time “SuperStar K” will hold auditions in Boston (Berklee) and Vancouver!

For those who want to give it a try, apply online at the official website. For applicants overseas, the application form will be open until June 27 via online UCC and smart phone application “Mnet Star.”

The first episode of “SuperStar K5” will air on August 9 at 11pm (KST). Since its first season launched in 2009, “SuperStar K” discovered many  talented singers like Seo In Gook, Huh Gak, Ulala Session, Busker Busker, Roy Kim, and many more. Now, it’s regarded as one of the best singing audition programs of Korea, having generated an audition boom across Asia.
