Weekly K-Pop Music Chart 2013 - July Week 1
Last week, SISTAR’s “Give It To Me” climbed up to No. 1 and we predicted that this song would be on top for a few weeks. Riding the strength of sweeping all the network rankings last week, it barely No. 2 and No. 3 songs this week.
Both No. 2 and No. 3 songs this week are new entries to the top 10, and are from a seasoned veteran and a rookie.
Moving up 20 spots to No. 2 is veteran singer Lee Seung Chul’s “My Love,” the title song from his 11th album. This is his first full length album in four years. The theme of this album is about feelings we have in life. “My Love” was written by Jun Jae Sung, who has teamed up with Lee Seung Chul for many hits songs throughout his career. While it is not a surprise to see this song in the top 10, as Lee Seung Chul’s songs frequently hit the top 10, it is a major surprise to see this song only behind “Give It To Me” by seven points without any promotions. Let see if “My Love” can overtake “Give It To Me” next week.
Up nine spots to No. 3 is another mild surprise. It is from Kim Ye Lim’s “All Right.” Kim Ye Lim is the female half of the duo Two Months, who just had their first top 10 hit “Number 1” a few weeks ago. “All Right” is from Kim Ye Lim’s first solo mini-album “A Voice.” Written by singer-songwriter Yoon Jong Shin, the song is about the complicated mind of a girl who has just broken up with a lover. Kim Ye Lim’s laid back voice makes this a unique K-Pop song. “All Right” is only three points behind the No. 2 song “My Love,” making it a contender for the top spot next week as well.
There are three other songs in the top 10 this week. Moving up 18 spots to No. 6 is Sunny Hill’s “Darling Of All Hearts,” the title song from their mini-album “Young Folk.” The girls tried something new this time, incorporating a folk sound to their songs. “Darling Of All Hearts” has a refreshing polka rhythm that is different from other K-Pop songs you hear this summer.
Moving up seven spots to No. 8 is Baek Ah Yeon’s “A Good Boy,” the cute title song from her second mini-album “A Good Girl.” This is a song that showcases both the singer’s vocal and her youthful image.
The last of the five new songs in the top 10 this week is at No. 9. Six-member female group Dal Shabet returns to the top 10 with “Be Ambitious,” the title song from their fifth mini-album of the same name. It is a dance number with electronic sounds and strong rhythms. The song is about a girl who tries to seduce her boyfriend in a sexy or cute manner. Dal Shabet is going for a sexier image this time, let see if it helps this song to get more popular.
