7 K-Drama Characters Your Parents Wish You Could Date

Everyone has their favorite K-Drama. Consequently, everyone has a fantasy of which K-Drama character they would like to marry. However, what if that decision was out of your hands? What would happen if your parents could choose a K-Drama character for you instead? Would they choose gorgeous gumiho Alex from  “Nail Shop Paris” or would they choose Jang Geun Seuk‘s swoon worthy bad boy character in “Mary Stayed Out All Night?” After thinking about it from a parent’s perspective (and after consulting my own K-Drama addicted mother), here are seven K-Drama characters your parents wish you could date.

siyoon3

Yoon Si Yoon as Enrique Geum in “Flower Boy Next Door” was quite possibly one of the cutest characters ever in a K-Drama. Whether he was wearing a panda hat or bouncing around happily on a road trip, he managed to steal the lead’s heart (and ours!) while still being a famous game designer. Successful, adorable, kind and patient- this is definitely a K-Drama character most parents would like to have in the family.

kiwoo

As all of us were swooning over Cha Chi Soo in “Flower Boy Ramen Shop,” an older brother suddenly showed up and threw us into confusion. Cha Chi Soo was gorgeous, but Lee Ki Woo, as the manly Choi Kang Hyuk, managed to break our hearts as he struggled with his feelings for the heroine and his sense of responsibility towards his younger brother. In addition, when he appeared in one scene fresh out of the shower and wrapped in nothing but a white towel, his rock-hard abs left all the viewers in awe.

yonghwa

In the popular drama “You’re Beautiful,” Jung Yonghwa provided us with one of the most memorable second-lead characters in modern K-Drama history. Although we loved all of the A.N.JELL members (played by Jang Geun Suk and Lee Hong Ki), there was something extremely vulnerable about Kang Shin Woo that left viewers cheering for him to win the heart of the female lead. Kind, gorgeous, talented, musical, and caring- this is definitely a K-Drama character that parents would choose for their daughters!

soohyun

Kim Soo Hyun absolutely stole our hearts while playing Song Sam Dong in the drama “Dream High.” Considering that his co-stars were Taecyeon and Wooyoung from 2PM, stealing the hearts of all the viewers was no easy task. Although we would gladly accept any of the three, my guess is that parents would be more likely to choose Sam Dong for their prospective son-in-law. Humble, kind and successful are just three of the many wonderful traits this unforgettable K-Drama character possesses.

Kim Hyun Joong played Yoon Ji Hoo, one of the most memorable characters of one of the most popular K-Dramas of all times. In “Boys Over Flowers,”Ji Hoo was hopelessly in love with the main character and although you cheered for him from the start, you knew he was doomed to finish second. Although he developed a deep and lasting friendship with Jan Di, in the end he didn’t get the girl. Writers managed to please everyone though when they let Jan Di admit that though she loved Goo Joon Pyo (played by Lee Min Ho), Ji Hoo was her soul mate. Any of the gorgeous and sweet F4 guys would make a great boyfriend or spouse, but no doubt many parents would choose Yoon Ji Hoo as one of the characters they wish their child could date.

heechul

Although most of the characters on this list come from dramas which can be termed “modern classics,” this character comes from a drama which only recently finished it’s run. Super Junior‘s Heechul proved his acting skills with the complex role of police officer Park Jung Woo in “Flower Grandpa Investigation Unit.” While the drama was generally lighthearted and provided a lot of laughs, Heechul’s character provided the audience with some really moving moments (SPOILER ALERT) as he finds out he has terminal cancer, then later takes a bullet for the sake of his partners. With his tender, kind attitude and his dedication and responsibility as a police officer, Jung Woo shows why he would be a great person to date.

hyunbin

Hyun Bin played one of the most classic K-Drama characters as Kim Joo Won in “Secret Garden.” Admittedly, he started off as prideful, immature and arrogant, but what can you expect with a mother like his? Despite her influence, he still had great qualities which shined through in his actions toward Gil Ra Im. Endlessly patient and determined to get his woman no matter what the cost, he finally proved to the audience exactly what kind of man he was by choosing love over money. It was quite the journey seeing him grow from a spoiled kid to a responsible man, but fans loved every minute of the experience. Due in no small part to this lovable character, this drama has proved over and over again why it’s one of the classics.
