IU Talks About Reason For Starring In “Hotel Del Luna” And Character’s Unique Fashion Style
IU shared her thoughts on starring in tvN’s upcoming Saturday-Sunday drama “Hotel del Luna”!
“Hotel del Luna” is about elite hotelier Goo Chan Sung (Yeo Jin Goo) who finds himself in charge of the Hotel del Luna with the beautiful but hot-tempered hotel owner Jang Man Wol (IU).
IU came across “Hotel del Luna” while wanting to star in a bright and refreshing drama. She explained, “The project’s tone was very interesting because it was refreshing and smoothly incorporated occult elements.”
In particular, IU talked about her character’s unique charms. She said, “Since she’s all twisted up on the inside, she’s an ill-tempered character. Full of resentment in a boring world, her only interest is luxury. With a strong sense of pride and a dislike for showing her weak side, she deals with people in a tough manner.” IU also explained why she liked the character Jang Man Wol, saying, “I felt sympathy for the character with a soft heart beneath a tough exterior. If you look closer, you can find humanistic qualities as well.”
Furthermore, IU revealed that while she was contemplating on taking on the character, the Hong Sisters had told her, “It won’t be easy meeting a female character this strong and fun,” building even more anticipation for the unique character to come.
IU’s character has already gained much interest for her extravagant style in the teaser images and videos. IU shared, “From the first meeting, the director and scriptwriters wanted a completely different style for each scene. After consulting with the stylist, I got to research and showcase new outfit, accessory, hair, and makeup concepts I haven’t tried until now.” She added, “I want to portray the character of Jang Man Wol three-dimensionally.” IU also commented that she was putting in a lot of thought into filming in order to showcase a new acting tone for the drama’s witty and dramatic scenes.
IU expressed, “I hope that although Jang Man Wol may seem a little unlikable in the beginning, everyone will be swept up in her story. I hope people who like comedy, people who like horror, people who like romance, people who like extravagantly colorful scenes, and people who like Kim Joon Hyun will watch [the drama].”
“Hotel del Luna” premieres on July 13 at 9 p.m. KST. Watch the latest teaser here!
