Dispatch Reports Details Of How X1 Members’ Agencies Came To Decision To Disband

Dispatch has shared new details about “Produce X 101” project group X1’s recent disbandment.

On January 9, Dispatch reported that it had obtained information about the voting process that led to X1’s disbandment earlier this week. According to the report, representatives of the X1 members’ agencies met at the CJ ENM Center in Seoul on January 6 at 4 p.m. KST in order to come to a decision on the future of the group.

Cho Yoo Myung, the CEO of X1’s management agency Swing Entertainment, attended the meeting, along with representatives of the individual members’ nine agencies: Play M Entertainment (Han Seung Woo), Yuehua Entertainment (Cho Seung Youn), TOP Media (Kim Woo Seok), OUI Entertainment (Kim Yo Han), MBK Entertainment (Lee Han Gyul and Nam Do Hyon), Woollim Entertainment (Cha Jun Ho), DSP Media (Son Dong Pyo), Brand New Entertainment (Lee Eun Sang), and Starship Entertainment (Kang Min Hee and Song Hyeong Jun).

Before voting on X1’s future, the agencies’ representatives reportedly discussed the question of whether the group should continue their promotions or disband for approximately one hour.

According to Dispatch, the nine agencies then conducted an anonymous vote, with the agreement that X1 would only continue promoting as a group if all nine agencies unanimously voted in favor of it. (If even a single agency voted in favor of disbandment, X1 would disband.)

Four agencies are said to have voted for X1 to continue promotions (“O”), while four voted in favor of disbandment (“X”). The ninth vote appeared to be an “O,” but due to some uncertainty over how the ballot was meant to be read, it was ultimately disregarded (either way, it would not have affected the outcome). The entire voting process took just 10 minutes to complete.

Although one agency reportedly suggested that they wait a few days to announce the news of X1’s disbandment, the majority of the agencies agreed that it was better to move forward with the announcement as soon as possible.

The CJ ENM executives, who left the room during the vote, then returned to hear the nine agencies’ decision. Everyone agreed to remain in the room until CJ ENM had issued its official press release, in order to ensure that the news was not leaked prematurely.

Cho Yoo Myung reportedly took the opportunity to suggest that the X1 members join the meeting so they could voice their opinions firsthand, but several agencies are said to have opposed the idea, explaining that they had already discussed the issue with the members beforehand.

Finally, at 6:15 p.m. KST, the various agencies informed the X1 members of the voting results, approximately half an hour before the news of X1’s disbandment was released.

According to Dispatch, Cho Yoo Myung suggested that X1 release one final song that they had already recorded this winter, but several agencies were against the idea. Another agency representative also reportedly suggested that X1 film a farewell video, but the idea was not met with unanimous approval.
