Lee Soo Man Wanted "Udong" As Debut Name for Shindong

On the December 13 episode of SBS "Strong Heart," Super Junior’s Shindong revealed some of Lee Soo Man’s name-making methods. On this program, he said, "Chairman Lee Soo Man suggested at first, ‘Since you have a funny image, how about Udong for your name?’" Shindong continued on to say, "I couldn’t debut with the name Udong (Udong is the Korean pronunciation of Japanese udon), so I told him that it was too much. He then suggested, ‘How about Dong Choon?’"

More than 170 press members came to cover the the press conference for “2011 MAMA (Mnet Music Asian Music Awards).” SNSD and Super Junior did not attend any MAMA events in the past three years (first appearance for SuJu) due to the conflict between SM Entertainment and the show’s host, Mnet.

With leaked images and names, the post gives a full guideline to which new idol group is debuting under each agency, although most of them are not official yet.

SM Entertainment to Debut a Multinational Male Idol Group in 2012?

SM Entertainment, the entertainment agency behind the careers of some of K-Pop’s most popular groups, is said to be looking at launching a new all-male group of Korean, Chinese and Japanese members in 2012, local news agencies reported. The idea of launching a multi-racial group is aimed towards targeting a wider international audience base.

One SNSD Member Costs $3 Million (To Find and Train)

SM Entertainment’s CEO Kim Young Min explained the behind story of SNSD being created. On November 4, Kim Young Min appeared alongside SM Entertainment Japan’s Shigeo Maruyama on the Japanese FBS TV Show “Tokoro, Sanma’s Who Is Moving the World Discussion.” Kim Young Min spoke about how K-Pop succeeded and the direction it needs to take now. First, K-Pop chose “Comprehensive Training System” as one of the main reasons for the success of K-Pop. Kim Young Min stated, “If a group concept is chosen, then the members start training their foreign languages, dancing, and singing.” He explained that the average training period for trainees is 3~5 years, DBSK trained for nearly 7 years.
