Petitioners Rise In Support For The East Light's Members

The number of petitioners who signed the national petition in support for The East Light’s members reached up to 190,000 people.

On October 18, the physical and verbal violence that The East Light’s members went through since pre-debut times was revealed. On October 19, The East Light’s leader Lee Seok Cheol held a press conference and provided testimony to rebut the agency’s statement. Previously, the agency stated that they properly penalized the producer who abused them but denied the CEO’s involvement in the case. Following the press conference, the CEO released a statement saying that he accepts the criticism towards the agency and the producer, but denied his own charges.

JTBC’s “News Room” then revealed an audio recording from Lee Seok Cheol on October 20. The recording contained the conversation between Lee Seok Cheol and the CEO after he made it known that he was going to go public about the case. Lee Seok Cheol moved on to reveal more evidence of abuse, and announced that he and his brother Lee Seung Hyun will take legal action on October 22. The East Light’s agency Media Line Entertainment released a statement on the same day, saying that they will terminate their contracts with the remaining four members.

People started signing up for a national petition on the Blue House website, asking for the proper punishment of producer Moon Young Il and CEO Kim Chang Hwan. If more than 200,000 people sign up for the petition in 30 days, the government officials have to provide the petitioners with an official statement. The petition started on October 19, but has already reached 194,000 people.

The petition states, “The East Light’s members had to undergo severe physical and verbal violence for four years just to make their dreams come true. I ask for strong support from everyone.”
