Hanteo Chart Announces Rankings Of Top 50 K-Pop Artists In 2021 Based On Global Album Authentications

Hanteo Chart has now released Part 2 of its semi-annual Global K-Pop Report for the first half of 2021!

The second part of the mid-year report, which was compiled using data collected from January 1 to June 20, uses Hanteo Chart’s Global Authentication data for physical albums to measure K-pop artists’ global popularity in the year to date.

(K-pop artists’ albums typically come with a Hanteo Chart Authentication card that has a QR code and barcode, which the buyer can use to authenticate their purchase of the album through the Whosfan app.)

In the first half of 2021, the region with the highest number of authentications was the United States, where 19.97 percent of all album authentications took place. Malaysia came in at a close second, accounting for 17.65 percent of this year’s authentications thus far, followed by China, the Philippines, Thailand, France, Singapore, Russia, Japan, and Indonesia.

As for age demographics, the majority of album authentications (58.66 percent) were by fans in their twenties. Teenage fans accounted for 30.61 percent of all album authentications, while fans in their thirties accounted for 10.28 percent.

BTS recorded the most album authentications in the first half of 2021, and their most-authenticated album was “BE.” Notably, “BE (Deluxe Edition)”—the original version of the album that was released in November 2020—garnered more authentications than “BE (Essential Edition),” which was released in February of this year. The region that authenticated the most BTS albums was the United States (where 33.52 percent of all BTS authentications took place), followed by the Philippines (17.80 percent), and Malaysia (17.01 percent).

ATEEZ came in second place, accounting for 9.94 percent of all albums authenticated in the first half of 2021. The group’s most-authenticated album was “ZERO: FEVER Part.2,” and the regions that authenticated the most ATEEZ albums were the United States (36.30 percent), France (9.67 percent), and Malaysia (8.04 percent).

Finally, NCT DREAM took third place for the first half of 2021. The group’s most-authenticated album was “Hot Sauce,” and the regions that authenticated the most NCT DREAM albums were Malaysia (47.60 percent), Thailand (21.02 percent), and the Philippines (6.33 percent).
