The Economist: “Hyun Bin Follows Elvis Presley Route”

British magazine The Economist has compared Hyun Bin to the legendary singer Elvis Presley in a recent article titled “Hallyu Elvis and the draft-dodger.” The article discussed how all Korean males are required to serve 21 months in the military, and the sensitivity of some male celebrities or sons of prominent business/political figures finding ways to dodge the mandatory service– but Hyun Bin as a prime example of proudly serving the military.

All Five KARA Members to Appear Together on "Strong Heart"

While it has been told that KARA will be kicking off their group activities in Korea with their appearance on SBS’s “Strong Heart,” there has been much speculation going on over what the girls might confess on the show. Their agency DSP Media stated on the 12th, “KARA will participate in the shoot for SBS’s ‘Strong Heart’ today at the SBS Hall located in Deungchondong, Seoul. It’s their first promotional activity in Korea in five months, after their promotional activities for ‘Jumping’ at the end of last year.”

Miss A’s Suzy Sheds Tears While Filming ‘Dalgona’…Why?

Miss A’s Suzy shed tears while shooting SBS’s “Sweet Hometown Outing (Dalgona).” Suzy filmed the recent episode of “Dalgona" along with her beloved parents and younger brother from her hometown Kwangju and her childhood friends. Suzy, who mentioned that she’s sad that she can’t visit her hometown often due to her busy promotional activities, seemed thrilled to see her parents on screen whom she was unable to meet for quite a while.

Uee is Sorry About Her Baseball Pitch

After School’s Uee talked about her baseball pitch incident on SBS’s “Strong Heart” that was broadcast on May 10th. In May of 2010 Uee was late for a game between LG and Nexen and didn’t have a chance to throw her baseball pitch. This incident gained a lot more attention because Uee is actually the daughter of Nexen’s baseball coach.

MBC’s “High Kick!” Series Popular in North Korea?

Radio Free Asia (RFA), the U.S.-based nonprofit radio/Internet news service, has reported Tuesday that MBC’s hit sitcom series, “High Kick without Hesitation” and “High Kick through the Roof,” are gaining huge followings in North Korea lately. “South Korean dramas titled ‘High Kick through the Roof’ and “High Kick without Hesitation’ are making a lot of young North Koreans laugh these days. Teenager kids and young women are completely fascinated by the fun script of the ‘High Kick’ series,” the radio broadcaster said quoting an unnamed source from the North Korean city of Hae San in the Yang Kang Province. According to the source, the “High Kick” series first started to surface in the Yang Kang black markets from last November, and currently most high school students own a couple DVD copies of the hit sitcom. A single DVD contains about five episodes, the report said, and they usually cost around 4,000 won (3.70 USD)—a hefty price tag for regular North Koreans who commonly pa
