Classic Meets Contemporary: Trends Korean Stars Wore During HERA Seoul Fashion Week F/W 2018

South Korea may be bidding farewell to Winter and welcoming Spring, but the 2018 Hera Seoul Fashion Week delivered its highly anticipated Fall/Winter collections ahead of its time. It’s a fashion-forward nation, after all, and along with its trend-embracing masses is a slew of equally stylish stars who graced the red carpet. Soon, we’ll be seeing these trends in music videos, magazines, and on the street, so here’s a look at the star-studded front row guests and the trends they wore as seen on the runway:

Brown, gray, and glen plaid

We’ve seen it draped on the shoulders of fashion influencers all over the world, worn with jeans by idols in casual chic airport looks, and on every trend list since last year: the gray plaid blazer and its several other incarnations. Glen plaid is a combination of small and large checks, and this patterned look embodies an urban professional look with a casual touch. With its versatile quality that can make anyone look style-ready from day to night, it seems like this trend isn’t going to die any time soon.

EXID’s Junghwa and Hani

Trench coat

The perennial trench coat went from classic to cool as the once luxurious item has now been re-imagined into a street and casual look. Some stars wore it over sporty outfits and jeans, while most of the ladies wore it with something a bit more dressy. It’s a trusty cover-up that lightens up the mood of Winter and alludes to the leaves of Fall. Plus, it’s a good outerwear for the transition season when the weather is just the right amount of cold.

Hello Venus’s Lime and Yoo Young.

Interestingly, Yoo Young paired her trench with a matching sporty training wear. On a side note, Lime is actually wearing the same outfit by Charm’s as Minzy did last season, but she looks just as chic.

Apink’s Jung Eun Ji wore a red lace and fringed skirt to add some color to her shorter cut trench coat.

Classic black and white

When in doubt, wear black or white, or a combination of both. These stars didn’t take risky choices and took the basic route instead. But in their case, less is definitely more.

YCH

T-ara’s Eunjung wore a crisp, white blazer and trousers combo while Lee Min Jung looked fresh in a white blazer over a short black dress.

Charm’s, Bourie

Red Velvet’s Seulgi kept her black outfits interesting with a sequined midriff top and skirt as well as a silk dress. Her signature long straight hair with bangs and red lips completed her classy yet edgy look.

Nam Tae Hyun in a boxy black suit and an artsy hairstyle

DIA’s Chaeyeon and Huiyeon

Kim Bum

9MUSES Kyungri and Kim Sohye

On two separate days, CLC members wore uniforms of black and white

Fresh neutrals

Sometimes, subtlety can make a big statement. Light beige, cream, and off-white can go with anything, and these stars played it safe with soft undertones and timeless shades that are easy on the eyes.

A. Bell

Lee Chung Ah and Jung So Min

Girls’ Generation’s Seohyun kept her fashion week looks sweet and simple just like her personality.

Denim

Denim will always be a classic casual look, but these stars put a subtle spin on it.

Trending colors

Lilac, deep purple, and cerulean blue

Purple hues are making a regal and royal statement this season, but another type of blue made a splash on the runways and it’s something we haven’t quite seen as much as before: cerulean blue. So what exactly is it? It has more of a powdery pastel shade like a periwinkle flower. Just think about the color of the sky on a serene, crystal clear day.

Romanchic, Beyond Closet, The Centaur, Lang & Lu

Hyomin wore feminine dresses with ruffles

CROSS GENE’s Takuya

Millennial pink and Gen Z yellow

Millennial pink may have made Instagram feeds pretty and cute last season, but Gen Z yellow is emerging as its brighter and bolder younger sister. “I like to describe Gen Z yellow as a ‘notice me yellow,'” Krishna Powell, a multi-generational expert, told INSIDER. “It is regal like gold but has the brilliant yellow undertone.”

KYE, Greedilous

Seol in Ah and Girl’s Day’s Minah

Soyou, Hat:felt, plus ASTRO’s Cha Eun Woo and Moon Bin

Model Irene Kim gave us a hint on her favorite color this season

TVXQ’s Changmin and Yunho

Fiery red

We’ve seen mostly quiet and faint colors so far, but a screaming bright red and red orange is here to stir things up. It’s a totally bold, entrancing color that amplifies any look, especially if you wear it from your head to your toes.

Lang & Lu

Seo Ji Hye and Lee Da Hee

Group coordinated style

If there’s one rule that stylists follow when coordinating a boy or girl group’s look this season, it’s that they create a unifying point (whether in color or standout print) within different looks to still make it cohesive.

VICTON

JBJ, Halo

CLC’s Eunbin for Jarret
