More Concerts, Events, And Movies Postponed Or Canceled Due To Coronavirus Outbreak

The Korean Music Awards has decided to cancel its ceremony and instead announce winners online.

On February 24, the organization shared a statement explaining that in response to the severity of concerns and risks regarding novel coronavirus (COVID-19), they tried to find potential countermeasures so that they could still hold the ceremony. However, with the crisis alert level risen to the highest level and everyone taking precautions to prevent the spread of the virus, they determined it would be difficult to hold the ceremony.

They therefore decided that they would cancel the 17th Korean Music Awards ceremony, asking for understanding as it was a decision made after prioritizing everyone’s safety and health.

The winners of the awards will be revealed online at noon KST on February 27.

As the number of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) cases continues to surge in South Korea, more events have been pushed back or canceled altogether. As of February 24 at 9 p.m. KST, there are over 800 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in South Korea.

TWICE’s Seoul concert, which JYP Entertainment initially said would be taking place as planned, has now been canceled. The concert had been scheduled for March 7-8 at the KSPO Dome. JYP Entertainment will soon be releasing information on how to cancel and refund tickets as well as what will happen to pre-ordered concert merchandise.

SHINee’s Taemin has postponed his solo concert, “Never Gonna Dance Again,” which had been scheduled for March 13-15 at the SK Olympic Handball Gymnasium. SM Entertainment has announced that fans can refund their tickets through the official ticket seller, Yes24.

Hyun Bin and Hwang Jung Min’s upcoming film has had to put filming on hold after Jordan (where the film shoot is taking place) banned Koreans from entering the country. The film distributor stated, “The entry ban was announced last evening, so even the production staff are at a loss for what to do. They are currently in discussions about the current situation. There’s no clear answer yet, but we will do our best to ensure there are no problems with filming.” Filming was scheduled to begin at the end of March and several production staff members had already gone to Jordan to prepare.

The wrap party for “Dr. Romantic 2” on February 24 will be held privately, with just the cast and crew having a quiet meal together to celebrate the end of filming. No press photos of the event will be taken.

The hugely popular show “Mister Trot” has canceled the recording for its final episode, originally planned for February 24, after the government declared the highest alert level possible for the coronavirus outbreak.

PENTAGON has canceled a fan sign event planned for February 28. Cherry Bullet has canceled their weekly “Che-ting” event. Son Dong Pyo’s first fan meeting, planned for March 28, has been postponed.

Park Shin Hye’s movie “Call” has postponed its premiere, originally planned for March. Park So Dam’s movie “Fukuoka” has canceled its planned press conference on March 3 and postponed its premiere date. CJ Entertainment has postponed its screening date for the black-and-white version of “Parasite.”
