Whenever "K-Pop" is mentioned, most of the people will think about SNSD, Big Bang, Super Junior, Kara and many other group idols. However, alongside idol groups, there are also many solo artists within the K-Pop industry, although idol groups tend to overshadow them.

MBC, KBS, SBS “No Plans to Restrict G-Dragon’s Appearances”

After reports of G-Dragon’s marijuana incident, a large question that was the repercussions on TV, would G-Dragon be restricted from appearing on television? Currently it appears that MBC, KBS, and SBS the big three broadcasting companies of South Korea do not have plans on restricting his appearances. On October 5, a representative of MBC’s review team stated, “Currently there are no plans on restricting G-Dragon from appearing on MBC. Typically, MBC will restrict a celebrity from appearing (if they had drug issues) if they received something above an imprisonment sentence. Currently, there are only about 10 celebrities of that sort. It is hard to simplify the comparison, but because G-Dragon has only received a warning (suspension of indictment) there are no plans to meet in order to discuss G-Dragon and restricting his appearance.”

Jaurim Puts on Electrifying Performance on MBC "I Am a Singer"

On last week’s episode of MBC “I Am a Singer,” rock band Jaurim electrified audiences with their rendition of Shin Hae Chul’s “Jazz Café.” Going with the theme of the 90’s, each contestant was assigned a song from that decade, and Jaurim was given “Jazz Café” for the second part of their sixth round. This stellar performance was only made possible by Kim Yoon Il, the sibling of Juarim’s main vocalist Kim Yoon Ah.

K-Pop Stars to Visit Peru for Volunteer Work

In celebration of their 50th anniversary, MBC will be running a special program titled, "KOICA’s Dream: Peru," with six celebrity teams participating in a volunteer trip to Peru. Participating celebrities include Park Bo Young, MBLAQ’s G.O. and Mir, Park Jung Ah, Goo Jun Yub, and Kim Ho Jin. They will be leaving for Peru on September 14 for two weeks to help rebuild schools and bathrooms with 20 medical staff who will also provide medial treatment and vaccine services. They’ll also teach Korean and spread Korean culture like Taekwondo to local people. The group will return to Korea on Sept. 28.

KBS’s "Hello" Is Monday Night’s Number One Variety Show

KBS’ show "Hello" has kicked off MBC’s "Come to Play" from the throne as Monday night’s number one variety show. On September 12, it was reported that "Hello" had a viewer rate of 9.1% (according to AGB Nielsen Media Research), while "Come to Play" followed behind at 7.6%. On the special Chuseok episode of "Hello", Super Junior’s Eun Hyuk, Shin Dong, Dong Hae, and Kyu Hyun appeared on the show. This episode featured regular citizens as well, who discussed topics starting from underwear size to fear of bugs.

The athletic abilities of your favorite stars were put to the test on September 13 at the third run of MBC’s hit sports show, "Idol Star Athletics Championships!" The three-hour special was recorded on August 27th, which saw a gathering of 10,000 fans of all different idol groups. The show was hosted by MC Kim Je Dong, comedian Boom, and Oh Sang Jin.
